Introducing the dynamic women of 3Cube Property Solutions
Category Commercial and Industrial News
In honour of National Women's Month, we got the ladies of 3Cube Property Solutions together and asked them to tell us about their backgrounds and to give us the advice that they would give women looking to launch a career in commercial or industrial real estate. We also asked them what message they would like to send women trying to forge a career in roles traditionally occupied by men. Here's what Mariska Ah Sing, Cassandra Delacovia, Caron Hagues, Chenai Mugunyani and Janine Pretorius had to say.
Introducing these strong women and their backgrounds
One thing is clear after chatting to these ladies: there is a great variety of backgrounds that can make people realise that a career in industrial and commercial real estate is for them! Pretorius hails from a varied background of teaching English in Thailand, online brand management, working for a handbag designer and owning a nursery school. It was her deep love of all things marketing that brought Janine back to the marketing field. "Working at 3Cube Property Solutions has been a great growth curve and learning opportunity for me," she explained.
For Delacovia, the move to commercial and industrial property came with the decision that she needed a change of career to grow and move forward in life. "I was apprehensive about coming for the interview at 3Cube, because I didn't consider myself a natural salesperson," she explained. "However, I soon realised that this isn't selling - we are in the business of helping people find a solution to their property needs."
Ah Sing, originally hailing from Gqeberha, moved to Gauteng in 2015 with a financial background, and started with 3Cube Property Solutions in the accounts department. "I later became a broker, which was the best decision I have ever made," she shared.
With 18 years of experience as a financial planner, Hague found the transition into commercial property broking very easy. "The principles of financial planning and property investments are not dissimilar," she explained.
Advice for women looking to launch a career in commercial or industrial real estate
When asked what they would advise a newcomer to the field, this dynamic group of women explained that while it's a tough industry, hard work always leads to success. "What you put in is what you get out," commented Hagues. "It takes hard work and dedication." To this, Delacovia adds that while it isn't an easy career, it is certainly a worthwhile one. "If you like people and enjoy being kept on your toes daily, this might just be the career for you."
According to Ah Sing, the secret to success is being proactive and remembering that your only competition is yourself. Pretorius points out that thanks to technology, there are countless learning opportunities at our fingertips. "If there's something you don't know, you can learn it," she advised.
A message for women forging a career in traditionally male-dominated fields
In the words of Mugunyani, women should step into the room and own it! "You belong there and you deserve it," she encouraged. Pretorius added that women should not limit themselves based on traditional stereotypes. "If you have the skills, knowledge and experience required to fulfil a role, then go for it," she said. In Delacovia's words, "just go for it and give it your best shot!" Ah Sing adds that women should never give up. "There will be plenty of tough times that make you feel like quitting, but don't ever quit. Each speed bump you endure will make you stronger." Hagues added her voice to the chorus of encouragement, stating that women should always put their best foot forward.
