Alberton at a glance

The city of Alberton, situated on the southern part of the East Rand, has truly evolved into one of the most thriving industrial nodes in Gauteng. Although comprising a large residential sector, its locale has made it the ideal place for industry. Resting on the banks of the Natal Spruit and spanning 77.16 km² – Alberton was originally a farm called Elandsfontein which was owned by Johannes Petrus Meyer. Though only gaining its municipal status in 1939, Alberton’s first official post office opened its doors in 1929 and many settled within its borders years prior to this.

Location and Transport

Due to its convenient location, Alberton has become one of the leading industrial areas – with short travelling times to Germiston (20 minutes) and Johannesburg (20 km). Alberton provides industrial and commercial tenants with easy access to the Sybrand van Niekerk Freeway (R59) and other major arterial routes including; the N12, N3, N17, M48, M31, M61, M94 and the R554. 

It is also situated, in proximity to the O.R. Thambo International Airport, which is 33km away and the Rand Airport which lies a mere 20km from Alberton.

Convenient commuting and public transport options are also available to those traveling to and from work; these include the Gautrain which is 30min from the city centre, the Metrorail and many busses and taxis that service this area.

Alberton’s Industrial and Commercial Property Market
